How to apply Cream to Powder Foundation Makeup

Cream-to-Powder Foundation Makeup is the best choice for any skin type because it allows for full coverage with a creamy, flawless and light weight finish that transitions between day wear and night wear without hesitation.  It is the number one choice of Makeup Artists because  Cream-to-Powder Makeup is also the most forgiving and easy to work with.  Cream-to-Powder is the most popular choice among makeup enthusiasts and professionals alike.

How do you apply Cream-to-Powder Foundation Make-up?

apply blushBrush – Applying with a brush is going to give you light, opaque coverage which is perfect for helping to even out skin tone and giving your skin a flawless finish.  Be sure to apply with long, light strokes to avoid any streaking with your brush. These are currently a hot brand that works well with Biofond Foundation.

square spongeSponge – This popular technique will give you more coverage if you are trying to conceal skin imperfections or for additional blending.  Using a lightly dampened sponge (with water or Hydro Pearls Primer) will give you more coverage than a brush but less than a dry sponge.  This is our recommended method and each Bio-Fond Foundation compact comes with a hypo-allergenic, non-latex sponge. Using a sponge is also ideal for buildable coverage.

fingertipsWith your Fingertips – Another way to apply Bio-Fond Foundation is with your fingertips. Please make sure your hands are thoroughly clean prior to application, to avoid contamination.  Your fingertips will give you the most coverage but also is also great for blending, since the foundation will soften into your skin from the warmth.

No matter which method you prefer, Cream-to-Powder foundation makeup is forgiving and easy to use!  With the included moisture base and sun protection, Biofond is ideal for every skin type from dry to oily.

Highlight & Contour

Highlighting and contouring is certainly having it’s moment in the makeup spotlight.  These techniques however have been around for many decades and are considered standard techniques for Makeup Artists.

Highlighting includes using a lighter color than your standard foundation shade to help mask or conceal imperfections in the skin.  Contouring is using the illusion of shadows on the skin to help create definition.

Multi-ethnic group of young women: African, Asian, Indian and Caucasian.

Highlighter – The smooth, creamy consistency of this concealer blends perfectly with fair and medium BioFond Foundation colors! Use Highlighter to help conceal dark circles, splotchy skin, imperfections or age spots.  Lightly dab Highlighter, using a small, dense brush, your ring finger or flocked sponge, onto the areas of concern and then follow with your regular Bio Fond Foundation color.  Beautiful, natural coverage!

Lilac – This striking light purple concealer will actually set as a porcelain hue once applied to your skin.  This allows your skin additional cover-up for highly pigmented skin spots, scars or bruises.  Lilac will also help to counteract yellow undertones.  This highly demanded concealer will blend effortlessly with your regular Bio Fond Foundation makeup, giving you an even, natural looking skin tone.

Shader  – help define your face by contouring with the color Shader.  Contouring is a trick commonly used by make up artists to make a nose or chin appear smaller, a face to look skinnier or even to hide a double chin!

3 products + 5 minutes = easy, beautiful summer glow!

It’s finally summer time! If you’re like me you can’t wait to get outside everyday and bathe in the warm rays of the sun!  Of course while I’m soaking up all that Vitamin D I do not want to actually risk burning or tanning my skin.  In just 5 minutes I can apply my make-up for the day, don’t have to worry about touching up or make-up runoff.

The three products you need:

  1. Hydro Pearls Moisturizing Primer
  2. Bio-Fond Foundation Makeup (pick your shade from 20 here)
  3. Bio-Fond Bronze Special Petite

Bio-Fond Foundation make-up is a huge time saver!  Not only does it help to give your skin a flawless, even appearance but it has physical sun block protection in it.

Follow these quick, easy steps for a beautiful summer glow!

  1. Apply Hydro Pearls all over the face & neck.  You can use a sponge but I prefer to use my (clean) hands. Wait for this to totally absorb, about 1 minute.
  2. Using a brush (mine’s a small kabuki), tap the brush into your Bio-Fond Foundation Makeup and apply to your skin in small circles, blending outwards.  Start in the middle and work towards your hair-line.  Apply small dabs and blend for extra under-eye concealment.
  3. Using a bronzing brush, tap into the Bronze Special Petite compact and light apply in short, upward motions across the highest points of your face (nose, cheek bones, chin and/or forehead).
  4. Follow-up with your favorite eye products and a clear lip gloss.

Valentines Makeup How-To

I know that many people don’t celebrate Valentines Day for various reasons. Truth is though, it doesn’t have to be all about love between you and a significant other. You can have just as much fun on Valentines Day as all those going out on dates. And let’s be honest, how much fun is it to wait 2 hours for a reservation anyway? Whether or not you celebrate V-Day, here is a fun look you can do for the day.

Step 1: Apply moisturizing Primer. I recommend Hydro Pearls Makeup Primer because it is a water based primer so it won’t trap dirt and bacteria into your skin like so many other silicone primers can do.

highlight contour

Step 2: Contour your face depending on face shape

To determine your face shape compare a picture of yourself to these famous face shapes.

I used Gerda Spillmann Bio Fond Foundation and highlighter and bronzer (Bronze Special). I love this line of foundation because the concealers, bronzers, blush and foundation are all made of the same ingredients which makes for flawless blending. As an added bonus, this makeup is the last step of their skin care line. That means that it is good for your skin. It is also anti-aging and it has a physical UV block so you don’t have to reapply to get that protection that our skin needs.

Step 3. Eyes. Prime your eyes. You don’t want all that eyeshadow coming off, smearing or creasing. I recommend Urban Decay.

Step 4.  Here, you can choose any way to apply the red to your eyes. For the look in the first picture, I wanted the red to really stand out so I put it heaviest on her lids and faded it up. I put a darker red in her crease and under her eyes for a little more drama. Helpful Hint: Red eyeshadows tend to look more pink when you apply them. To counter this, wet your brush first so that it becomes more of a paint. Test it on your hand first if you are a little nervous as to how pigmented it will be. I used colors from various collections of the Naked Cosmetics because they are super pigmented.

Step 5. Fill in the eyebrows with red lip liner and then apply some more red eyeshadow over top.

Step 6. Clean up around eyes (you will probably have some loose pigment that fell off the brush).

Step 7. Apply your Blush. I kept a pretty light hand here with the blush. I used Gerda Spillmann Bio Blush. I love this blush. It is nice and creamy so it helps keep you looking moisturized throughout the day. It can be applied very lightly or darker as well. Plus, one color fits all. Seriously, I have put this on all my models, brides or whatever and it has been perfect for everyone. And it tends to look different on everyone according to skin tone, too.

Step 8. Apply your Mascara and fake lashes (if desired)

Step 9: Apply the fun stuff to your face! Here, I used crushed up candy canes. I attached each piece with eyelash glue. You can do this with sequins, diamonds or whatever floats your boat 🙂 Just as long as the things that you use are light enough to be held on with the glue. I actually had her tip her head to the side while it all dried on.

Step 10. I dabbed eyelash glue to my fingers and then dabbed it on with the candy canes. I then applied glitter.

Step 11. Cover your lips in red lipstick and then in eyelash glue (good thing it’s cheap!). Sprinkle a pile of glitter into the palm of one of your hands, pucker up and kiss the hand into the glitter. Keep your mouth like this until it is dry. If you open too quickly, you will have glitter all over your teeth. I learned that the hard way. You can kiss more than once if you want more glitter, just as long as the glue is still wet. Do it pretty quickly if you want.

Step 12. Clean up around edges.

All done! Practice a couple of times if you need to before you want to go out. It’s a fun look but it’s still beautiful. Have a happy Valentines day, even if you’re single!

How do I make my foundation look flawless?

Foundation makeup is the secret to the perfect skin you see on all the runway models, red carpet appearances and on-screen interviews.  So how do you replicate the steps of those professional makeup artists for yourself? GS Products, the Swiss leader in skin care & cosmetics for almost 70 years has the answers!

Step 1: Moisturize

Flawless looking skin starts before you even touch your makeup.  Balanced, supple skin is the most important element in achieving that polished, flawless look.  Healthy and hydrated skin reduces the number of, and severity of, breakouts that can tarnish your appearance.  What moisturizer is right for your type of skin?  We break that down for you here.

Step 2: Find the right shade

If your foundation makes you appear ashy, sallow or washed out it is not the right color.  First determine your undertone – yellow, pink or neutral?  Are you fair? Are you dark? Selecting the right shade of foundation is key to allowing your makeup complement your natural skin’s beauty.  We offer samples of all of the Bio-Fond Foundation Makeup – just call us at 1-800-282-3223 and check out this color chart or visit our website.Bio Fond Color Collection 2012

Step 3: Prep your skin

After cleansing the skin, apply your moisturizer.  Wait 5-10 minutes to allow the moisturizer to fully absorb and skin into the skin.  Then apply your specialty products, makeup primer and concealer.  More tips on Prepping the Skin.  Do you need a primer? We suggest you always apply a water-based primer to give your makeup a supple canvas and also to protect your skin from harsh environmental elements, prevent moisture loss and give your skin a more natural, beautiful finish.

Step 4: Apply it correctly

Cream-to-powder foundation makeup is forgiving and a little will go a long way.  What’s the best way to apply foundation?  Use a brush for light, even coverage all over the face; a sponge for more concentrated coverage; or in a pinch even your (clean) fingers for spot concealment.  Apply your foundation makeup after your concealer but dab the makeup into the concealer to blend colors, don’t swipe or wipe it away.  Here’s a tutorial video on applying foundation and more tips from our blog here.

It’s Bridal Season – how to get a natural, beautiful bridal make-up look

Are you ready for a busy Bridal season?  If you are a professional or even someone looking to do your wedding make-up yourself there are some things you need to know, and others to keep in mind.

Apply a concealer that is just one or two shades lighter than the bride’s natural complexion and gently pat into the eye area to cover dark circles, to any imperfections you are wishing to hide, the tip of the nose, and if the bride has defined cheek bones, along the high ridge.  Next apply a high-definition ready, natural looking cream-to-powder foundation.  Cream-to-powder is going to give amazing coverage but will set with a very light-weight feeling, allowing the bride to not only look natural but feel natural too.  Bio-Fond Foundation is a silky, full coverage cream-to-powder that is easily blendable, lasts up to 16 hours and looks great under high-definition cameras.

Next focus on the eyes.  Start by applying a bit of foundation or an eye shadow primer to the lids to help eye shadows last longer and mask veins or imperfections that may be more visible with the thin eyelid skin.  Neutral shadow colors that are 4-5 shades darker than the brides skin tone, but match in cool or warm tones, is best to use all over the eye lid.  Follow with a lighter color from the top of the eye lids to the brow bone to brighten the eye area.  Then apply an earth tone brown in a sideways “V” shape at the corner of the eyes to help create definition and depth.  Curl the eyelashes and apply a coat of non-clumping, waterproof mascara; additional coats may be necessary for fair or thin eyelashes.

Cheeks should look slightly flushed without looking clown-ish.  Cream blushes are simple to apply, easy to blend and look great on any skin tone.  Using a clean blush brush, gently pat the bristles into the blush and then in a slight “C” motion apply to the apples of the cheeks, swiping up towards the hairline.  Gerda Spillmann’s Bio-Blush is ideal because it was designed by a professional make-up artist to work with every skin tone, giving beautiful, subtle emphasis.

Gently blot lip primer or a bit of foundation onto the lips to create a smooth canvas on the lips that will also help the color to last longer and prevent bleeding.  Follow with a matte lip liner and matching lip color.  Soft pinks are the most popular colors requested by brides.  Applying just a dab of gloss to the bottom lip helps to create an illusion of fuller lips.

Tips to remember when picking your make-up items:

    • Use an oil free sunscreen prior to make-up application and allow for full absorption (about 20 minutes) before applying foundation.
    • Apply make-up in natural light instead of artificial light; they can cast a yellowish appearance when applying make-up.
    • Avoid eye shadows, foundations, blushes and lip products that have shimmer or glitter because they don’t photograph well and can make the bride’s skin look tired, uneven or oily.
    • Avoid powders.  If the bride feels she needs to cover up after make-up application use blotting papers to absorb any oils.  Powders can leave behind a layer of light refracting particles that will make the skin appear ashy or give a white cast with flash photography.
    • 4-6 weeks before the wedding the bride should get a facial, increase her water intake, limit unnecessary sugars and greasy foods while increasing the number of vegetables consumed and begin a careful skin care regimen with regular cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing.  Exposure to sun, smoke and environmental pollutants will increase chances of big-day breakouts.

Applying Cream to Powder Foundation Makeup

How do you apply your Bio-Fond Foundation Make-up?

With a Foundation Brush – Applying with a brush is going to give you light, opaque coverage which is perfect for helping to even out skin tone and giving your skin a flawless finish.  Be sure to apply with long, light strokes to avoid any streaking with your brush.

With a Sponge – This popular technique will give you more coverage if you are trying to conceal skin imperfections or for additional blending.  Using a lightly dampened sponge (with water or Hydro Pearls) will give you more coverage than a brush but less than a dry sponge.  This is our recommended method and each Bio-Fond Foundation compact comes with a hypo-allergenic, non-latex sponge.

With your Fingertips – Another way to apply Bio-Fond Foundation is with your fingertips. Please make sure your hands are thoroughly clean prior to application, to avoid contamination.  Your fingertips will give you the most coverage but also is also great for blending, since the foundation will soften into your skin from the warmth.  Be particularly gentle around the eyes and use your ring finger to pat and gently blend the foundation under the eyes.

Using a primer will help create a beautiful, flawless finish with any of these application techniques and Hydro Pearls, our water based primer, also acts as a moisturizer to help seal your skin and promote not just beautiful, but healthy skin.  Because Hydro Pearls is water based there are no silicones to clog your pores, suffocate your skin, or leave you shiny looking.
